Spotlight on HUHS

To Heal. To Care. To Educate.

The clinical practice at Harvard University Health Services (HUHS) is a multi-specialty medical practice exclusively for members of the Harvard community. It is also one of HUGHP’s primary care network locations. A carefully calibrated system between HUGHP and the HUHS clinic ensures that members of the Harvard community receive high quality care, comprehensive health plan coverage, and personalized customer service.

Founded in 1899, HUHS currently serves Harvard faculty and staff enrolled in HUGHP, their families, as well as Harvard students, retirees, and members of the University BCBSMA High Deductible Health Plan. HUHS also plays a large role in the University’s public health efforts; this includes day-to-day work to ensure the community is healthy and safe. With four locations across Cambridge and Boston, HUHS provides personalized attention and service to the University community. The flagship HUHS office at Harvard Square includes Internal Medicine services, Urgent Care, and a range of specialty services including physical therapy, orthopedics, behavioral health, eye services, nutrition, dermatology, and radiology. As a patient, you become a valued member of the HUHS family and the care that you receive through HUGHP and HUHS reflects this all-important fact.

HUHS has over 60 licensed clinicians providing care to HUGHP members, including MDs, NPs, dieticians, physical therapists, psychiatrists, therapists, optometrists, and more. Each of these physicians are supported by other staff such as nurses, health assistants, and practice coordinators.

As we reach the 50-year milestone at HUGHP, we want to thank the HUHS clinical team for its continued partnership and for its commitment to heal, to care, and to educate our patients.

  • In FY22, 5,172 unique HUGHP patients had visits at HUHS (26,080 total visits)!
  • Within days of Harvard moving to almost all staff working remotely due to COVID-19, HUHS began in earnest to develop the capability to care for patients virtually. The process started in late March (2020) and was fully completed by the end of June (2020). During these few months, HUHS established a special HIPAA-compliant Zoom platform and successfully completed 11,000 video visits with their patients. Due to its popularity, HUHS continues to offer telehealth across 16 clinical departments.
